The Federal Asian Pacific American Council (tel # 415 788-1234) will showcase programs at their conference for APAs with disabilities, Native Americans, civil rights, supervisory/management issues, and current legislation concerning APAs. The National Technical Assistance Center <http://www.ntac.hawaii.edu> would like to submit proposals at this conference in the following areas: 1) conduct a workshop to educate FAPAC conference participants in the area of disability and job-site mentoring/accommodation for Asian American and Pacific Islanders individuals with disabilities; 2) conduct a whole day training institute on topics such as cultural competency & outreach strategies to recruit both employers & consumers in AAPI community-targeting personnel, and/or 3) reserve an exhibit booth to recruit employers/mentors for the NTAC-AAPI Hire.us database. ÒOne-Hundred Sparkling Valentine BraceletÓ Project Raises Funds for Artists Cooperative and Mentoring Program on Lanai
Liden and eight other Lanai artists have worked together as mentors of special education students of LanaiÕs only public school, ages 5-18, to make beaded bracelets to sell as gifts. The ÒOne-Hundred Sparkling Valentine BraceletÓ project started on Jan. 12 with the goal of making 100 bracelets to sell by Valentine's Day. American Express Economic Independence Fund Year 2004 Request for Proposals -

The American Express Foundation will grant a minimum of $500,000 in 2004 to fund financial literacy and education projects as part of its American Express Economic Independence Fund. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) live in communities where they face the same adverse environmental impacts as other residents. However, certain AAPI subgroups may be more affected by these environmental factors due to their lifestyle, customs and practices, living and working conditions, and other activities.
