NEW! Earn 10 CEUs online

The ninth offering of the online course, "Introduction to Disability/Rehabilitation with Asian/Pacific Islander Americans" is right around the corner. It is set to begin on April 7th 2008 or shortly thereafter, and will conclude approximately one month later. For a nominal tuition payment of $20, you can complete this popular course while earning 10 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to apply to your CRC.

Each offering of this month-long course has been facilitated by NTAC-AAPI, with Paul Leung, (Professor and Director of the Department of Rehabilitation, Social Work, and Addictions at the University of North Texas) and Nan Zhang Hampton (Associate Professor of the Department of Administration, Rehabilitation, and Postsecondary Education at San Diego State University) serving as professors.

NEW! CEUs available for PacRim 2008

If you are in need of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and are attending the 24th Annual Pacific Rim Conference on Disabilities, and/or the pre-/post-conference sessions, CEUs will be available. Please see James D. Brightman, Ed.S., C.R.C., as he will have copies of the form you need to earn them. Mao Farms - Youth (17-24) - GREAT OPPORTUNITY

Mao Farms in Waianae (Oahu) is recruiting for our College Internship Program - it's a 2-year commitment for youth from the Leeward Coast ages 17-24. We send them to Leeward Community College (all tuition expenses paid) to earn their AA degree, provide them with tutoring and mentoring, and provide them with employment - they work at our organic farm 17 hours/week and get paid $500/month. It's a great place to reconnect with their culture, the 'aina and their understanding of kuleana to taking care of their community. We're looking for good kids with lots of heart and potential to succeed in higher education (they don't have to be A students).

The University of Delaware is seeking a Director of the Center for Disabilities Studies, Delaware's federally designated University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Research, Training, and Service. This is a senior, full time position with faculty rank in the Department of Individual and Family Studies at Associate Professor or Full Professor and a member of the senior management of the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy.

Director of Clinical Training, Center for Autism Research - The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

The Director of Clinical Training will report to the Director of the Center for Autism Research (CAR). The Director will have a faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania. The successful candidate will be licensed or license-eligible in Pennsylvania and hold a doctoral level degree in psychology, developmental pediatrics, or child psychiatry.

Grant announcement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on funding for a program to operate a National Information and Resource Center on Physical Activity for Persons with Disabilities. Application deadline is April 28, 2008. More information can be found here.

DisabilityInfo.gov Grants & Funding in Education Update: New Grant Opportunities from the U.S. Department of Education

Several new grant opportunities from the Department of Education, including funding to promote academic achievement and improve results for children with disabilities and projects or demonstrations that provide vocational rehabilitation (VR) services to individuals with disabilities who are migrant or seasonal farmworkers. Building Your Network and Workforce Readiness!

Funding is available to help your local or state workforce area reach out to your community through new, strategically designed networking events. The project is designed to support events that promote and facilitate partnerships between Workforce Boards, the One-Stop system, and new faith-based and community partners; for the purpose of preparing individuals for successful employment in local businesses and industries. Amanda

Growing up in a small Virginia community, Amanda C. was the only deaf member of her family and in her high school. She often found herself up against attitudinal barriers, but they didn't put any boundaries on this young woman. She graduated as salutatorian of her class of more than 600 students and became the first member of her family to graduate from college. As a high school dropout with a troubled past and a learning disability, Jessica D. of Michigan faced many obstacles that she thought would be impossible to overcome. Loving support from her grandparents put her back on the path to education. She re-enrolled, graduated with honors and started college.
