More Students Earn Continuing Education UnitsThe second ‘Introduction to Disability/Rehabilitation with Asian/Pacific Islander Americans’ online course is now over. NTAC facilitated this free course, conducted by Paul Leung, Professor and Director of the Rehabilitation, Social Work and Addictions department at the University of North Texas and Nan Zhang Hampton, Associate Professor of the Department of Administration, Rehabilitation, and Postsecondary Education at San Diego State University. Students who completed the assignments each earned ten Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC). Planning for the third offering has already begun, with a tentative starting date of April 15th, 2006. Please reserve your space in this course by sending an email to james.brightman@cds.hawaii.edu. Disability Leadership InstituteNTAC-AAPI is proudly sponsoring the Disability Leadership Institute on May 8, 2006 at the TAPA Conference Room at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa in Honolulu, HI. With Opening Remarks by Dr. Robert A. Stodden, Principal Investigator, NTAC-AAPI, and potential Keynote Speeches by Senator Daniel Inouye, Olegario Cantos VII, Elaine Chao, John Hager, and representatives from national, local (Hawaii), and Pacific Region areas. The Institute is an opportunity to share the best practices, employment success stories, and tools developed by NTAC-AAPI over the past four years and to develop action plans to carry out NTAC-AAPI’s mission beyond the current project period ending in September, 2006. ResourcesParticipate in an Online Discussion for a Study of Disability and Employment IssuesThe National Council on Disability (NCD) is conducting a study regarding the issues that persons with disabilities encounter in seeking and maintaining employment. As part of the study, NCD is seeking persons with disabilities, employers, service providers, and other stakeholders to communicate their concerns and employment experiences facing persons with disabilities in an online discussion. This study will result in a comprehensive report and set of policy recommendations by June 1, 2006. http://www.ncdadaemploymentstudy.com/ Job Opportunities for Low-Income Individuals (JOLI) grant programThe purpose of the JOLI program is to provide technical and financial assistance to private employers in the community to assist them in creating employment and business opportunities for low-income individuals.
