More Companies Recruit Bilingual Employees

Whether its parlez-vous franais, habla espaol or voc fala portugus, more American companies are looking to recruit and hire bilingual employees. Several factors contribute to this trend, but there are two primary reasons for the increased need to recruit multilingual employees. http://www.shrm.org/ema/EMT/articles/2004/Fall04teixeira.asp

Accessibility: What's good for some is really good for all

Give me bigger restroom stalls, bring on the chirping traffic signals and abolish doorknobs. These issues of accessibility affect people with disabilities, but I am not in a wheelchair, blind, deaf or infirm. I endorse accessibility for my own selfish benefit. A common myth says that work spent accommodating people with disabilities benefits a minority of our population. Accessibility progress is mired in such distractions. http://www.times-standard.com/Stories/0,1413,127~2902~2519989,00.html

Benefits to Inclusion: A New Market in People with Disabilities
People with disabilities experience some of the highest levels of poverty in the world. Recent World Bank estimates show that people with disabilities may account for as many as one in five of the world's poorest. In the United States, according to the 1995 Current Population Survey, 39.7% of working-age persons with disabilities live in poverty. Furthermore, one third (34%) of adults with disabilities live in households with total income of $15,000 or less. Disability frequently results in limited access to education and employment and leads to economic and social exclusion. http://www.wid.org/publications/?page=equity&sub=200407&topic=fa
